RAURU

Rauru is the latest of our fonts based on the various forms of the iconic koru motif. Rauru is the Maori word for spiral, and refers specifically to the universal spiral design in nature/evolution, often called the golden mean. In the Māori cultural context Rauru refers to the classic spiral shape of the younger, furled form of the fern frond, but its meaning – of purity, growth and renewal – is very similar to that of the (unfurled) koru. Rauru also has an extended meaning of honesty and truth, but this may be because of a famous East Coast (and, later, Taranaki) warrior chief called Rauru Kītahi, who was known to be a man of his word.
